Fiscal Policy
Our fiscal policy is completely out of control. Every year the government spends much more than it takes in, which continually increases the national debt. The large majority of this spending is wasteful, unnecessary and unconstitutional. Often times the money goes to whomever can afford the most lobbyists and campaign contributions.
I would reduce spending in the following areas:
-Eliminate redundant and overlapping federal agencies. Consolidating duplicative programs will save money and improve government service. We don't need 45 federal law enforcement agencies, 342 economic development programs, 130 programs serving the disabled, 130 programs serving at-risk youth, 72 federal programs dedicated to assuring safe water, 12 food safety agencies, 19 programs fighting substance abuse, 17 rural water and waste-water programs in eight agencies, etc... The redundancy goes on and on.
-Work to ensure there is proper oversight of DOD contacting activities.
-End the war on drugs.
-Eliminate the Department of Education and return decision making authority to the local level.
-Eliminate federal subsides and pork barrel spending, both of which are a form of welfare.
-In addition to the listed targeted cuts, I would seek to cut all remaining government spending across the board by 10% for 3 years in a row.
With these spending reforms in place, we would begin to run at a surplus which would allow us to pay down the national debt. After a significant portion was paid off, we could drastically reduce the tax burden on all Americans. The ultimate goal is the elimination of the capital gains, personal income and inheritance taxes.
